How it works
Ten minutes of setup. An evening of accusations.
InQuestion turns your home into the scene of the crime. You hide the evidence; the game handles the story, the rules, the twists and the big reveal.
Before the party
Set it up once
- 1
Create a free game
Sign up, name your party, pick a case and choose how long it should run (45 to 90 minutes). Optionally set a start time and the game will begin on its own.
- 2
Print the evidence kit
Download one PDF: about 30 numbered QR placards plus a “join the game” poster. Ordinary paper is fine. The kit belongs to you, not to a single game, so you only ever print it once.
- 3
Send the invite link
Guests who join early are assigned their suspect straight away, with a costume idea and a catchphrase to practise. A week’s notice turns a party into a costume party.
Hiding the evidence
Where to hide the placards
Spread them across every room you’re happy for guests to wander into. A few rules of thumb:
- Keep them visible from a standing position: tucked, not buried.
- Mix heights: inside a cupboard door, on a picture frame, under a lamp.
- Skip bathrooms, bedrooms you want private, and anywhere near the stove.
- Outdoors is fine if it’s dry and lit. Fairy lights make the garden a crime scene.
- Leave the join poster by the front door so arrivals can scan in immediately.
During the game
What your guests will do
Scan to join
Guests point their phone camera at any placard or the join poster. The game opens in the browser: no app, no account, just a name.
The case opens
At the start time every phone shows the same opening: who died, where, and why everyone in the room is under suspicion.
Hunt the evidence
Each placard hides an alibi that clears a suspect, a room or a weapon. Your phone keeps a detective’s notebook of everything you’ve ruled out. A short cooldown between scans keeps people moving instead of camping in one corner.
Survive the twists
Story beats fire on a timer: a gale halves scan cooldowns, a blackout freezes accusations, the Inspector arrives and demands interrogations.
Win interrogations
The game pairs two players and tells them to find each other. One reads a four-digit code off the other’s phone, then both play the same quick minigame: fishing, lockpicking or fingerprint matching. The winner gets a free clue.
Accuse
Name a suspect, a room and a weapon. Wrong? The Inspector rules out one part of your theory and you can try again after a cooldown. Right? You’ve cracked the case, and everyone else gets a few minutes of last call.
The finale
The killer’s motive, method and confession play on every phone. Put the live view on a TV for maximum gasping. Want another round? Start a rematch on the same kit: new killer, new clues, same placards.
Questions
Good to know
Do my guests need to download an app?
No. Guests point their normal phone camera at a printed evidence placard and the game opens in their browser. iPhone and Android both work, and nobody has to create an account.
Does someone have to run the game all night?
No. You can schedule a start time and the game runs itself: it deals the evidence, fires story twists on a timer, calls players in for interrogation minigames, announces last call after the first solve and plays the finale on every phone. The host can play too.
How many people can play?
From 3 up to 40. The free tier covers up to 6 players; a Party Pass unlocks up to 40 players for one game.
How long does a game take?
You choose the length when you set it up, from about 45 to 90 minutes. An hour is the sweet spot for most parties.
What do I need to print?
One evidence kit: about 30 numbered QR placards plus a "join the game" poster. Print it once on ordinary paper and reuse it for every party; the game reshuffles what each placard means every time.
Is it scary or gory? Can kids play?
It is a cozy, Agatha-Christie-style mystery: spooky atmosphere, no gore, and motives like inheritances and blackmail rather than adult themes. Most families with kids around 10 and up have no trouble with it.
Can we play more than once?
Yes. The killer, room and weapon are drawn at random every game, and so are the clues on each placard, so a rematch on the same kit is a brand-new mystery.
